Elkhead Reservoir
Elkhead Reservoir, a newly expanded, man-made reservior located approximately 10 miles northeast of Craig, offers many recreational opportunities from fishing to hiking.
Easily accessible from Moffat County Road 29 and Routt County Road 78, Elkhead Reservoir offers camping and picnic areas, a boat launching ramp and a beach area.
Actvities include swimming, water skiing, fun on the beach and more.
The recreation area provides approximately 11 miles of recreational trails. Access to the trail is provided at the Elkhead landing/parking area, Greenwood's Cove, Cedar Bend and East Beach. The trail is open in the spring, summer and fall to all forms of non-motorized modes of travel. In the winter months, the trail is also open to snowmobiles, cross-country skiers and snowshoers.

Colorado State Parks.
Boating
All vessels using Elkhead Reservoir (excluding hand launch) MUST be inspected for Aquatic Nuisance Species prior to launching. To speed the process, please make sure that your vessel is clean, drained and dry. Please note boat ramp hours. Boats using reservoir after dark will be required to be moored or docked until the next day. There are two boat ramps at the reservoir. Boat ramps are open daily from 6 a.m. to dusk.
Camping
The reservoir boasts 30-50 sites with varying amenities, although some do have electricity and there are public restrooms at the reservoir. Camping is first come, first served basis until reservations come on line.
Fishing
Fishing is picking up due to warmer temperatures. Bank fishing is still allowed at all public access sites. Please use caution as conditions may change suddenly. Elkhead Reservoir is open to fishing and day use. Small mouth bass and trout are being restocked into the reservoir and Northern Pike are being relocated from the Yampa River into the reservoir. Valid Colorado fishing licenses are required.

American Bass Anglers occasionally has tournaments at Elkhead Reservoir. The group usually gets 20 to 35 anglers for each event.
