Dinosaur National Monument covers more than211,000 acres of spectacular canyon country.

A monument visitor center is located two miles east of the town of Dinosaur on U.S. Highway 40 and provides specific maps and information about this panoramic area. The Colorado Welcome Center located in the town of Dinosaur is a great resource for travelers.

The National Monument provides scenic drives, nature trails for hiking, and incredible rafting and fishing opportunities on the Green and Yampa rivers.

Dinosaur National Monument spans Colorado and Utah. On the Utah side, there are opportunities to see fossils on exhibit and by the trail. There is an auto tour, petroglyphs and great views of the Green River.

The Moffat County entrance to the monument is is 90 miles from Craig on U.S. Highway 40. Enter via Harper's Corner, a scenic drive that visitors call a glimpse of a "mini-grand canyon." There are several overlooks, hiking trails and camping opportunities throughout Dinosaur National Monument.

The Moffat County side offers breathtaking views of the Green and Yampa river canyons.

Public campgrounds:

There are several great campsites in Dinosaur National Monument. One of our favorites is Echo Park, 38 miles north of the town of Dinosaur, with its "air conditioned" cave, views of pristine petroglyphs, riverside campsites and the opportunity to view bighorn sheep and other wildlife.

In addition to Echo Park, campgrounds on the Moffat County side of Dinosaur National Monument include Deerlodge Campground, 53 miles northeast of the town of Dinosaur, which features open sites with river views and is a launch site for private and commercial rafting trips traveling the Yampa River. The Gates of Lodore campsite, 55 miles northwest of Maybell, features spectacular canyon and river views, wildlife, hiking trails and is a launch site for private and commercial rafting trips traveling the Green River.

Visit our Camping page for other great sites and more detailed amenity lists.

Scenic drive:

We recommend that visitors turn north off U.S. Highway 40 at Elk Springs on to CR14 and travel the Yampa Bench Road for the best views of the Yampa River Canyon. Travelers will drop into Echo Park - a perfect place for a picnic lunch - and enjoy the beautiful, winding ride up to Harper's Corner. Caution: This is a remote area with limited services. Do not travel when wet.

Hiking:

Travel along trails with reveal fossils, past cultures and stunning panoramas. Dinosaur National Monument offers more than 30 miles of trails and an open back country offers challenges for hikers of all skill levels.

Boating:

The Green and Yampa rivers are two of the West's premier whitewater destinations. Both rivers can be run with an outfitter or in private groups. Permits are required.
